Consentful Lighter or Darker You
Description
This project started from the Experimental Camera project, which gives viewers the opportunity to play with a version of themselves that could be either lighter or darker than their own coloring. What would I look like if I had fairer skin? What would I look like if I had darker skin? How would the camera see me? Or would it?
Reflection
It's incredible to see how many steps there are to making a fully consentful interface. Honestly, if I wanted to check every step and be totally true to the FRIES method, this program becomes a lot more complex.
Design Process
The first flow chart I created was to ensure that I had a fool proof way of ensuring that the user knew what they were getting into. It was very complicated, and I don't think I could have implemented it with the time I had. (Sorry that Iciouldn't figure out how to rotate the picture.)
The second flow chart I created was much simpler, but yet still difficult to implement, with the steps as I wanted to illustrate.
I was able to explain to the user that they could consent now, or they could see an example before consenting to use of the camera, use of the camera to alter their face, etc.
I just couldn't get the camera to turn on, even when I played with other people's sketches, so I just couldn't test it. I tried so many times, even removing the snap camera, which I thought was interfering with the regular camera on the computer. This is what the image looked like without the camera turned on.
I got to the point where I could show an example before the person got to agreeing to share their camera, which is part of the way there.
